Miransol School of Music is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting music in Haute-Gaspésie and is recognized as a cultural organization by the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications. Aware of its role as a cultural institution, it has contributed for nearly 45 years to the development and vitality of the region by promoting music as a means of personal and community enrichment.
The School is also recognized as a registered charity, which allows it to issue official charitable donation receipts. It is also a member of the Pôle d’économie sociale Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the Chambre de commerce de La Haute-Gaspésie, and Culture Gaspésie.
Students of all ages and skill levels benefit from high-quality musical training and pedagogical support across a wide variety of disciplines and musical styles.
Courses are designed both for students who wish to pursue advanced studies in music and for those who play for pleasure. They are tailored to each student’s level and interests, allowing progress at an individual pace. Lessons may be offered during the day or evening, in private or group formats, depending on teacher and student availability.
Thanks to a qualified team of instructors, students who wish to do so may be guided through the Conservatory’s external program. Each year, according to their progress, they may take the Conservatory’s theoretical and practical examinations, which can open the door to advanced music programs if they choose to pursue them. These students also benefit from certain advantages such as Master Classes, free Conservatory exam fees, certificates, and other surprises to reward their efforts and perseverance.
History of the School
The Miransol School of Music began its activities in the fall of 1980, driven by a small group of music enthusiasts from the region. Three teachers from the Rimouski Conservatory—Louise Henry, Anne Bilodeau, and Guylaine Beaulieu—traveled weekly to offer piano, violin, and guitar lessons to about sixty young students in Cap-Chat and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts
The School quickly expanded and diversified its offerings with, depending on the year, classes in guitar, bass, percussion, clarinet, flute, violin, voice, lute, musical awakening, composition, and music theory. Various workshops have also been offered over time, covering topics such as stage presence, composition, musical improvisation, and music history.
In recent years, the Miransol School of Music has also become involved in several social and community-oriented projects. It is present in local early childhood centers (CPE) and at Gabriel-Le Courtois High School, where it contributes to making music more accessible to all. Since winter 2018, a partnership with the Centre de pédiatrie sociale de la Haute-Gaspésie has led to the creation of the Haute-Gaspésie Garage à Musique. The Garage à Musique has since been offering free workshops for youth aged 12 to 17 in various municipalities of the Haute-Gaspésie RCM.
